Sunday Children's Ministry

Our Sunday Children’s Ministry Coordinator, Cheryl Scaffidi, works with the council and pastoral staff to plan and oversee our entire Children’s ministry and to assure that we doing the best we can to help our children develop their faith.
Mission
- We will encourage our children to question, search, discover and grow into their faith.
- We will provide our children opportunities to learn about the faith in creative, meaningful, and kid friendly ways that allow for personal circumstances, challenges and interests.
- We will provide a safe and loving environment where all of God’s children are welcome to experience the Word of the Lord.
- We will provide children with caring, helpful teachers, shepherds and rotation leaders that they can trust on a consistent basis.
3 Years - Kindergarten
Each Sunday morning, our youngest children’s ministry participants have a place to learn about Jesus’ love and meet other children who will walk with them through the early years of their faith journey. The loving teachers and helpers at this level present bible stories, faith concepts, songs, games, crafts and a loving, supportive and fun place for children to begin to grow their faith.
1st - 5th Graders
Faith is not meant to be a “school” subject to learn and file away, but the center of a persons’ identity. Therefore, Trinity’s 1st through 5th grade Sunday children’s faith development uses the Workshop Rotation Model, a fun and interesting update of traditional “Sunday school”.
“WoRM” (Workshop Rotation Model) recognizes that different people learn best in different ways (by watching, doing, participating, listening etc.) A bible story or concept is taught for five weeks in five different ways. Each week, children rotate by age group into a different “experience” of the story or concept. One week, the story or concept might be presented by a video interactive storytelling format. The next week they might be involved in a cooking or art project, or a series of games that presents the same story or concept. The idea is to give children a chance to experience Bible stories and faith concepts in different, fun and memorable ways.
“WoRM” has been a HUGE hit with our children!!!
Keeping The Promise
“Keeping the Promise” is a special rotation which we present every year. It is made up of five workshops especially designed to help each grade level grow to a deeper understanding of one aspect of the promise their parents made for them at their baptisms. This rotation is designed directly from the baptismal vows:
"In Christian love you have presented these children for Holy Baptism. You should, therefore, faithfully bring them to the services of God's house, and teach them the Lord's Prayer, the Creed, and the Ten Commandments. As they grow in years, you should place in their hands the Holy Scriptures and provide for their instruction in the Christian faith, that, living in the covenant of their Baptism and in communion with the Church, they may lead godly lives until the day of Jesus Christ".
For five weeks each 1st – 5th Grader will be exposed to five different presentations of the baptismal focus for their grade level:1st Grade – The Lord’s Prayer
- 2nd Grade – The Ten Commandments
- 3rd Grade – The Books of the Bible
- 4th Grade – The Apostle’s Creed
- 5th Grade – The Worship Service and Communion
To be fully successful, this rotation will require that each child’s loved ones work with them to learn their particular part. For the 5th Graders, this includes the First Communion Workshop, Leading Worship, and Celebrating their first Communion.
This rotation is our attempt to faithfully “keep the promise” we made to God and our children.
6th Grade Pre-Confirmation
Our sixth grade “pre-confirmation” class meets in Trinity’s “large conference room” in a forum style. One teacher and the same helpers lead this group for the whole year. Our oldest children are given an overview of the Bible. They explore and discuss the authors, origins, concepts and concerns of the scriptures.
